About the trip

Sorry if we've worried you. We once again had trouble connecting (this time the phone was mysteriously cut off), and since we left Europe, we haven't really had the heart to post.

We are back safely in Seattle now, and not very thrilled about it as you can imagine. The novelty of walking sidewalks that are utterly free of dog crap, ordering coffee to go, and encountering waiters who don't look at us like they're about to hit us is already wearing off. It could be that all this GODDAMN RAIN is washing it off, or it could just be that we're settling back into normal life. Normal life, I must say, doesn't compare too favorably right now. It's like we're the kids of divorced parents: Europe is the fun noncustodial parent who takes us to Disneyland and McDonalds and lets us stay up past our bedtime and eat PopTarts for breakfast. Now we have to come back to Seattle, who has custody of us. Seattle sets rules, makes us eat wholesome, well-balanced meals with vegetables and get to bed at a reasonable hour. While we certainly benefit from the strict, consistent parenting Seattle's doling out, we can't help saying "You're not the boss of me!"

And yes, part of our bad attitude has to do with the fact that we chose to return right when Seattle weather is gearing up for its annual nosedive into hell. We have no one to blame but ourselves, we know. Plus, I really don't sense that anyone has a whole lot of sympathy for us. So, we're doing our best to snap out of it.

Some of our friends and relations have told us that not only do they read this site, but they actually enjoy it to the point where they visit regularly. We find this astonishing and delightful. If you're one of those people and are sad that the trip is over, do not despair. Between connection problems, illnesses, and just out-and-out laziness, we are still quite a bit behind. There will be lots of Eurotrip updates and new pictures arriving soon. For example, the second part of our Parisian adventure is now up. So please, keep tuning in.
