An Apology

We know what you’re thinking. “Those losers,” you’ve said to yourself as day after day has passed with no EuroTrip update, “I knew they’d never be able to keep this website going. They’ve probably even forgotten how to type.”

This is an understandable reaction, and we offer our most abject apologies for the delay in this update. But it is not because we did not want to. Technology, or rather the lack thereof, as well as other circumstances conspired to keep us from producing the quality programming you’ve come to expect from EuroTrip 2000. Here is a quick list of what we’ve been up to since we last wrote, along with the individual excuses we have for not writing:

August 12-15: Uttenreuth, Germany. We stayed with our dear friends Markus and Uli in their home near Nuremburg. Excuse: Besides the fact that we were visiting friends and couldn’t very well shut ourselves up in a room while they waited, we were consistently unsuccessful in our attempts to connect to the network.

August 15-18: Munich, Germany. We hung out in Munich and had dinner with our pal Berthold. Excuse: The connection in the hotel was a gigantic pain in the ass (the phone jack and the power source were on entirely opposite sides of the room and we had to manually dial to get an outside line). Plus, it was about fifteen hundred degrees in our room, and we could barely stand to sleep in there.

August 18-19: Vienna, Austria. Excuse: Never in our lives have we ever seen a phone jack as ridiculous as the one in our hotel room. As we browsed our extensive library of adaptors, we remembered back to when we had the great idea NOT to buy the adaptor for Austria, as we’d only be there one night.

August 19-26: Czech Republic. This week were on our walking trip in the countryside, much of which took place in areas that are just now developing their tourist industries. We had a wonderful time and met some great people. Excuse: Some of the hotels still had communist-era toilet paper, and we couldn’t get an outside line until the last two days. Plus we were walking upwards of eight miles a day.

But now we are in the very civilized, very wired city of Prague, and we’re going to be playing catch up with our past updates while we forge ahead. Not to mention all those Czech Republic postcards we need to get out the door. Rob’s got a few pictures for you to enjoy in the meantime. We both think that Prague is so beautiful it’s a little ridiculous. Over the next week or so we hope to back fill the site with adventures from Germany and our walking trip; we have tons of pictures, so stay tuned.

ALSO:  On Thursday, my humor piece was published in McSweeney’s online magazine. I read my fan mail in an internet café when we arrived in Prague. It was utterly surreal. I hope you like it as much as a few random strangers did.
